Blowout Morphometrics and Mass Balances

چکیده

The Gonghe Basin on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau has a cold, arid climate and suffered severe land degradation. Climate change as well anthropogenic activities including overgrazing have resulted in widespread blowout development formation of some Earth’s largest blowouts. blowouts are part an aeolian dominated landscape that passes from deflation zone to grass covered plain, then through increasing size complexity transverse barchanoid dunes migrating into valley Yellow River. A combination structure-from-motion (SfM) optical drone mapping, ground-penetrating radar (GPR) soil pits used investigate scour hollows depositional lobes. Comparisons volumes sediment removed with deposited within adjacent lobes varies between sites. lobe volume is invariably less than hollow. This can, part, be attributed reworking lobe, distributing sand further downwind uplifting dust. However, much difference can measurement technique, particularly where GPR was employed calculate volumes. wavelength limits its ability resolve thin layers resulting underestimate at margins thickness equal to, or than, GPR. For layers, beneath resolution GPR, suggest closer match eroded albeit large uncertainty. We put forth two hypotheses explain spatio-temporal evolution dune field. increase could either reflect propagation instability; it result upwind instability, which started highest points subsequently migrated northwesterly direction, towards lower elevations. Recent optically stimulated luminescence dating appear support latter hypothesis.

Calcium Mass Balances in Bicarbonate Hemodialysis

Dialysate calcium (Ca) concentration should be viewed as part of the integrated therapeutic regimen to control renal osteodystrophy and maintain normal mineral metabolism. The goals of this integrated approach are to keep the patient in a mild positive Ca mass balance (CaMB), to maintain normal serum Ca levels, to control plasma parathyroid hormone values to two to three times above normal leve...

Estimated Mass Balances of Perfluorinated Chemicals in Tokyo Bay

Introduction Perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) have been used widely as surfactants, lubricants, paper and textile coatings, polishes, food packaging, and fire-retarding foams over the past fifty years. Some of these chemicals, such as perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), are persistent in the environment and have been found in wild animal samples around the wor...

Geochemical mass balances of major elements in Lake Baikal

Major element mass balances for Lake Baikal are calculated with mostly previously published data for soluble fluxes and new, unpublished data for riverine suspended particulate matter chemistry. Physical transport seems to be the most important riverine process. The elements Ca, Mg, and Na seem to be very mobile in the weathering mantle and K and Si seem to be relatively mobile. A comparison of...

Geometric morphometrics and phylogeny

This paper reviews some of the important properties of geometric morphometric shape variables and discusses the advantages and limitations of the use of such data in studies of phylogeny. A method for fitting morphometric data to a phylogeny (i.e., estimating ancestral states of the shape variables) is presented using the squared-change parsimony criterion for estimation. These results are then...
